Fight Fatigue and Ageing through Body Awareness

No matter what you eat, no matter how much you exercise, you can’t have a healthy body unless you have a sound mind. Observe people around you. Those who worry excessively would always appear lethargic and drained whereas those with a tranquil mind always seem to be relaxed and energetic, even though they may not follow any diet or exercise regime. An aged, exhausted body simply means lack of life force or prana in it. Whereas an energetic and relaxed body is full of life force.

To demonstrate how awareness can increase the life force in your body, let’s take a small exercise. Find a weight or a dumbbell, not too heavy not too light. Switch on your television and switch to the news channel. Now perform dumbbell/weight curls with one of your hand, at the same time watching and listening to the news. Just make a note of the number of repetitions you achieved. Now switch off the news channel and relax for a while. Now again perform dumbbell/weight curls with the same hand but at the same time, be fully aware of your lifting hand. Be aware of how your hand moves, how your biceps contracts and stretches, your triceps, your forearms. Remember, awareness means absence of any thoughts, only witnessing. How many repetitions you could do? Definitely more than your previous attempt right? By becoming aware of a certain part of your body, you immediately direct the life force to that part.

When you think excessively or worry, there is no awareness and hence all the life force is consumed by your thoughts. Slowly your body gets drained and exhausted. Most people simply aggravate the condition by worrying further, making matter worse. That’s the reason, a vacation or a break during such periods helps get back some life force and rejuvenate your mind and body. However, if you consciously make an effort to be aware of your body every now and then, you need not need a vacation to recharge your spirits. You’ll be charged up all the time and your whole life will be a vacation!

Here’s a 20 minute exercise (more like a massage) to relax and recharge your entire body. I warn you, you’ll be addicted to it!

Sit on a chair and take a few deep breaths. Close your eyes and have a smile on your face throughout this exercise. Now place your right foot over your left thigh. Slowly squeeze each of the toes maintaining full awareness on the toes. Then gently massage the sole with your thumbs. Be aware of how the sole feels. Then the ankle. Then the entire right foot. Slowly move upwards and massage the calf and shin. Is the calf aching? If yes, then spend more time massaging it. Then the knee. Then the thigh and hamstring. Now slowly place the right foot down and place the left foot on your right thigh without losing awareness. Repeat the above sequence with your left leg. Now stand up and massage your buttocks, first right and then left. Again sit down and then squeeze your right hand’s fingers. Massage the wrist, forearm, biceps, triceps and shoulder. Repeat with your left hand. Now gently massage the abdomen, the chest, lower back, sides. Then the shoulders, neck, face, ears and forehead. Then your head. Gently pat all over your head with your palm. Finally, bring your awareness back on the arms (to release extra tension out of massaging) to relax them. Now sit cross-legged and be aware of your breath. Just watch it flow in and out. Stay in this position for 5-10 minutes, keeping the awareness on your breath. When you feel enough, slowly open your eyes with a smile.

The key here is awareness and not the intensity of the massage. Depending on your prevailing energy levels, you may want to do this exercise couple of times a day (before meals). Once you experience the benefits of this exercise, you’ll want to make awareness as your lifestyle.

Please let me know your experiences.

Setting goals for wellbeing and selfcare are the ultimate goal. When we look after ourselves and get to know our bodies well, we can work on shortcomings, introduce good habits and move forward. This is how I think, happiness is generated! http://www.selfcarerightnow.com
