8 Tips to Help You Experience Lasting Happiness

Happiness, the most sought after thing in our life but eludes most of us. The reason most of us fail to experience happiness in life is because our mind is programmed to look for it in future when it’s right here within each of us. Mind is like a magician, making illusions appear real. If you allow your mind to take charge of you, you’ll be forever chasing happiness. The only way to experience happiness is to connect to your inner self and cultivate awareness in your life. Here are some tips you can use to experience lasting happiness:

  1. Stop chasing material wealth. Wealth can bring happiness only up to a certain extent. After that, it depends on your attitude. If you are never satisfied, like most people, you’ll be forever chasing happiness.

  2. Don’t neglect your health. A healthy body equates to a healthy mind. Most of us, in pursuit of material wealth, neglect health and in the later part of their life spend what they have earned in trying to restore health! Exercise regularly and look after your diet.
  3. Don’t neglect relationships. One of the greatest needs of human beings is to be loved. But we all expect to be loved without taking time to give love!
  4. Be in the present moment. Most of us either live in the past or in the future. Isn’t it ironic that we always exclaim – Oh! Those were the days! But were you actually present during those yesteryears? You were chasing the future which is today! Happiness lies in the present moment, not in the future.
  5. Do what you love doing and not simply for the sake of money. If you don’t find satisfaction and happiness in what you are doing right now, you’ll never find it in the future.
  6. Share. One of the life’s biggest pleasures is in giving and not hoarding. The universe we live in is nothing but energy. The very nature of it is to flow and move from one source to the other. Just like you can’t fill a cup that is already full, one must share and give out our energy to make space for more to flow into us. And sharing is not limited to material wealth alone. It can be anything, your time, your knowledge or your love.

    When we learn to give, not out of sacrifice or for the sake of giving, but for the pleasure of sharing, we get enormous peace and happiness which can only be experienced. As we give out more and more, we create more space for the energy to flow in and we start experiencing abundance.
  7. Associate with friendly people. Happiness is contagious and spending more time with people who are funny and jovial will make you happy too.
  8. Have a cheerful and smiling face. Simply having a smile on your face will change your outlook towards a more contented one. This may sound ridiculous but you have to try it to believe it.
