Success Includes Your Family Too
Samuel Johnson once wrote,” To be happy at home is the ultimate result of all ambition”
It is a truncated success if you have ignored your family while climbing your way up to the top. A familial relationship, that is our relationship with our family, spouse and children depend upon how much quality time we devote to it.
Whereas, like all relationships, familial relationships too require nurturing, we tend to take our family for granted and live under a mistaken belief that they will always be there for us. Ignoring our family is tantamount to treating family members as non paying tenants who happen to occupy the same house. In that case it would be better to find tenants who will not interfere in our personal lives and business matters and pay rent instead.
Howsoever difficult it may appear, finding time for your family even when you feel that you do not have time for anything other than your job and business is not as difficult as it sounds. All it requires is a commitment, inclination, a set priority and as in all other matters, a disciplined approach.
Try not to bring home your office problems home. Conscious efforts to shut off your mind to office work and its problems after you leave office help and give the desired result.
Too much importance to office work and household chores tends to over power you rendering you unable to do anything else. Time spent with family, on the other hand refreshes and relieves stress and at the same time gives positive energy to enable you to tackle new business and office situations more efficiently.
Unhappy homes can prove to be disastrous, especially for children and may also ruin your marriage. It is not a duty that you have to perform but a service that you are doing to yourself too. Ralph Aldo Emerson said, “It is one of the most beautiful compensations of this life that no man can sincerely try to help another without helping himself.” This is as relevant for relationships in general as it is with relationship with your family.
Remember you work hard only to be able to enjoy your personal life and to finance your dreams. Try to keep track of your personal as well as business schedules by making a daily activity list and ensure that you are not ignoring your family simply to rise up the ladder.
