Don’t Try and Control Everything - Let Go!

Obtaining more power seems to be the trend these days. Every person that you meet seems to be caught up in this run up to achieving more power to be able to influence and as a consequence manipulating other people. Some try and attain this by trying to climb the corporate ladder whereas some strive towards social recognition. The fact that these power hungry people do not realize is that once they attain the power that they are so desperately seeking, it tends to become a burden that needs to be carried forever. The happiness, that they thought would follow power, still continues to evade them.

Those that experience a weird sense of thrill by keeping the strings of other peoples lives in their hands are those who probably have a contorted mind and go around strutting like ‘Mini Hitlers’. These people are more likely than not those who do not have control over their own lives and try and obtain a surrogate feeling of power by dictating others.

Some people tend to torture themselves with perfectionism. These are the ‘so-called’ virtues that people flaunt around are not really virtues at all. These are ways and means of disguising fears that people have. These fears arise from the lack of faith in ones own capabilities. The ‘so-called’ virtues are mere rationalizations that one provides for oneself to clutch on to some excuse or the other to fool themselves into believing that they are really important people.

Many clinical psychologists hypothesize that the perfectionist syndrome has its roots in demanding parents but blaming the parents may not be the answer in this particular case. It is more likely that a feeling of inadequacy leads them into adopting this garb of perfectionism.

Just as driving oneself up the wall is harmful, so is the attempt to control others. Money or status does not really give you the power over others. It does not even give you total control over your own life. Money or status cannot buy love. It can perhaps buy houses but cannot make homes. The concept of control is indeed a myth. The more desperately you want to be in control of your life or the life of other, the more it slips away from you. Actual and flawless power emerges from good management skills and the realization that you can manage what you have to some extent and total control is impossible in real life.

Once you realize that truism and stop trying to strive for absolute power, control and perfectionism, you will feel much more relaxed and comfortable with yourself. And you may also realize that interacting with others becomes more enjoyable and rich!

How do you make a transition into a transition-less state and visa versa?

I really couldn’t get your question Corey. Can you expand on it?
