Using Affirmations to Achieve What You Want
Success does not come naturally to anyone! Each and every person who is successful in his own right has worked diligently towards achieving his dreams. The most important aspect of achieving success is to have a positive attitude and a strong belief system.
Our belief system is a product of the environment and the society that we are brought up in. As children we have no understanding of our capabilities and thus explore all possibilities. We learn by experience, falling and faltering on the way. We understand positive and negative aspects of our actions only when other people praise or rebuke us. It is the external factors like these that influence the extent of self-confidence that we grow up with.
With the passage of time, inputs from other people determine what we believe about ourselves. Positive remarks boost our confidence and negative ones demoralize us. An environment that is motivating, supportive and abounds in praise goes a long way in molding a self-reliant individual. On the contrary, if the environment in the early stages of development is negative, nagging and caustic, the product is likely to be full of self-doubt and vacillations.
These impressions, formed on the basis of the evaluations of the external world tend to become universal truths that we start believing. Unless there is a watershed event, wherein we are forced to re-evaluate our beliefs, we continue to believe what the world has told us about ourselves.
To move forward in life and use winning strategies to attain success, we need to realize that we have the power to create new thoughts and restructure our belief systems. It is a time to introspect and realize your own potential. Negative thoughts need to be replaced with positive ones creating a mental environment of positivity. Negative thoughts limit behavior and restrict from achieving potential. One needs to look back and say, ‘Who says I cannot do this? I can!’
Many courageous and seemingly impossible feats can be achieved by believing that you can do it. If you continuously suggest to yourself that you have the capability, chances are that you will start believing that you can. And this will take you many steps forward in your pursuits.
The manner in which you can use self-suggestion is by making affirmations to yourself. Affirmations are strong positive statements that you tell yourself time and again. These statements reiterate what you may know as true but have buried deep down in your sub-conscious. The act of repeating these statements to yourself will ensure that positive beliefs shall resurface, enabling you to become a more positive and confident human being.
Affirmations need to be made effectively. They cannot be half-hearted statements that you make to yourself to try and motivate. They need to be devoid of self-doubt and wavering. An affirmation should come from you to yourself. This means that they need to be made in first person. They also need to be positively worded to enable the mind to focus on only the positive aspects. ‘I can do it’, ‘I will be the best performer on stage tonight’ and ‘I know I can face the big bully and handle it’ are some examples of effective affirmations.
Having created the most effective affirmation for yourself, you need to repeat it to yourself a number of times to ensure that you believe in it yourself. The layers that have been created by external factors over a large number of years cannot be removed within seconds. You will soon see that this strategy allows you to focus on the positive aspects of your capabilities and emerge as a winner eventually.
